Silent Night

Today I have a strange topic, given that it is two days before Christmas Craziness!  I just read a note from one of my favorite teachers, Vanessa Loder.  She spoke about something called Deep Rest.  She said, “Deep rest is divine action for the soul.”    There is something about this that rings very true for me.  Taking a minute to breathe deeply, to rest deeply and to fully turn inward until you find a stillness that speaks to you.

What do you find when you look underneath the busy, the hustle, the hurt, anxiety, worry or anger?  As Mary Oliver says:

“Today I’m flying low and I’m
not saying a word.
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.

Stillness. One of the doors
into the temple.”

In stillness, you find everything you need to know. . .   everything.  Don’t miss out on this most important way of knowing.  Take a break from the worry and rush and go deep into yourself, even if it is just for a moment.

What a crazy wish for this busy time of year, but I’m doing it anyway.  Maybe it isn’t too far off, we do call it a magical time.  The magic inside you isn’t found in the noise of life, but in the stillness.

Wishing you a least one silent night this season,

Kathie
