Attending on purpose

Where do you put your attention?

I learned a new tool from The Life Coach School this past month and I wanted to share it with all of you!  It is called an “Attention Audit” and it is something that I’ve really found helpful in focusing our lives and creating the future we want.

There are so so so many things competing for our attention.  Things that we are giving our attention to, things that are demanding our attention, and things that we attend to subconsciously.  Some of these things are awesome and give us energy, while other times, we are giving away our attention carelessly.  In an attention audit, we will also see when we are delaying giving our attention to a project or a person, when we actually want to be focusing on them.  We can find “attention drags” or things that we haven’t dealt with that keep us from being fully present.  I also think it is valuable to consider  if we are giving attention to the positive or negative in our lives. This practice reminds me that I get to act and choose, I don't have to just let it all happen to me.

Allocating our attention on purpose can help us create more of what we want in life.  It can give us space to grow what we really want to grow in our lives.  Even if we reallocate our attention for just 10 minutes we can see progress, take control and feel better.  Where could you focus attention differently for just 10 minutes a day that might create more of what you want?  Even a small start will give you results you can enjoy.

Place your attention on purpose.
